The Jewel in My Sea

I saw
A lonely jewel
Shining in my sea.

She gleamed
Like an amber tear
Of hopeful dreams,

Beckoned me
Like a glad reflection
Of endless stars.

A pilgrimage
Across aching sands
Brought her nearer.

I held out my hands,
Touched the unlit waves
And watched her
Disappear.
